An individual who laced candy with sedative and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offences against two boys both between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and an older person became sick at the facility in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
Yet, he disputed a single sexual charge he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She stated his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he managed.
Ruben conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings the man had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
The prosecutor stated further: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.
"They decided to investigate in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC stated objects including lubricant, ointment and syringes were found, and his stepson notified the authorities about his worries.
She said the man went on to conduct the "sweet game" with six youngsters that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that time," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the incident.
Mrs Prior stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the family member notified the law enforcement a second time.
She explained Ruben then played the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
